MAN A21 PT1 Retrofit
As of now, Traktionswerk has an innovative project regarding the electrification of a MAN A21 City Bus (12m). The customer is Vereinte Energiegenossenschaften eG and the vehicle is a former driving school bus of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).
The MAN A21 PT1 Retrofit has a range of 80-140 km, depending on environmental conditions and reaches a top speed of 85 km/h. The HV-battery system (Akasol / BorgWarner) is temperature controlled, using a heat-pump (technotrans) for optimal battery longevity. The vehicle is road-approved through individual approval according to §21, Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO).
The adaptation of the electric drivetrain to other vehicles (trucks, ships, etc.) is feasible, so that more used vehicles can come to live once again.
Project Workflow
First, Traktionswerk developed the requirements in collaboration with the BVG. After that, they analyzed the base vehicle and removed the combustion engine components. Than it was time to develop an integration concept and put in the electric components. This is followed by hours and hours of testing, the approval by technical service and finally the delivery. Mechanical fitment and installation were done by E2H2-DriveSystems GmbH.
As of May 2023, the vehicle is being used at the Airport Bremen, to transport travellers and crew to and from the aircrafts at the airport.
