It is a DIN ISO 6722 standardized designation that has the following meaning:

• FL: vehicle cable

• R: Reduced insulation wall thickness

• Y: PVC insulation

• B (FLRY-B): Asymmetrical conductor structure of the strands

The symmetrical cable structure has become established for cables up to 0.5 mm²; for larger cross-sections, the asymmetrical cable structure is generally used.

Important: If you add up the cross sections of the individual strands, you will usually be slightly below the specified cable cross section. However, the required line resistances are still achieved.
